At the start of the game, each player is dealt seven dominoes if there are two participants or six dominoes if playing with three or four people. All tiles must remain face down during distribution to keep their values hidden. The remaining dominoes form a draw pile, referred to as the pickaxe, which players may use during gameplay.
The domino game starts with the player holding the highest double—typically double six—taking the first turn. If no one has this tile, the player with the next strongest double begins instead. On each subsequent turn, the active player must connect a domino from their hand to either end of the existing chain by matching the number of pips on one side. Victory is achieved by emptying your hand of all dominoes first. If the game becomes blocked and no legal moves remain, the winner is determined by counting each player’s remaining pips, with the lowest total declared the winner.
